Safety Guidelines
HelperWebs connects neighbors for local chores. These guidelines help you make informed decisions — but your safety is ultimately your own responsibility.
Important Legal Notice
HelperWebs is a peer-to-peer connection platform only. We do not employ, supervise, background-check, or verify users. We do not guarantee safety, job outcomes, or payments. All arrangements are made directly between individuals. By using HelperWebs, you acknowledge that you participate at your own risk and that HelperWebs is not liable for injuries, disputes, losses, or damages of any kind.
Safe Work Environment
These are common-sense recommendations. You decide what you are comfortable with.
- Only accept jobs in your own neighborhood — walkable distance is strongly recommended.
- Never enter a stranger's home alone, especially if you are under 18.
- For minors (15–17): A parent or guardian should be present during your first visit to any new home.
- Keep doors open and work in common areas (yard, driveway, front porch) when possible.
- Avoid basement, garage, or upper-floor work on your first visit to a new location.
For Minors (Ages 15–17)
Parental involvement is required by our Terms of Use, but enforcement and supervision are the parent/guardian's responsibility.
- Parental consent is collected at registration. The parent/guardian email provided will receive a notification with a link to disable the account at any time.
- Tell a parent where you are going — share the job address and expected return time before you leave.
- Start with outdoor chores only (yard work, dog walking, trash/recycling) before considering indoor tasks.
- Never work alone in someone else's home. Bring a friend or have a parent nearby.
- Follow applicable child labor laws in your state. No power tools, chemicals, ladders, or hazardous work.
Verify Before You Go
Use your own judgment. HelperWebs does not verify the accuracy of user profiles or job listings.
- Review the provider's profile for complete information and reasonable job descriptions.
- Message through the platform first. Ask about specific tasks, tools provided, and whether adults will be home.
- Confirm the exact address. Ensure it is in your city and a familiar neighborhood.
- Never go to an empty house. Ask directly if an adult will be present during the work.
Avoid Risky Jobs
We strongly recommend you decline any task that feels unsafe or beyond your skill level.
- Power tools (lawnmowers, hedge trimmers, drills)
- Chemicals (cleaning supplies, pesticides, pool chemicals)
- Ladders or heights (gutter cleaning, window washing above ground level)
- Heavy lifting (furniture moving, appliance handling)
- Pet care for aggressive or unfamiliar animals
- Any job that asks you to work alone in an unfamiliar home
HelperWebs is designed for simple, safe chores such as:
- Raking leaves
- Watering plants
- Walking dogs (familiar, non-aggressive pets)
- Taking out trash or recycling
- Light tech help (Wi-Fi setup, phone tutoring)
Payments & Platform Rules
- All payments should go through our in-app system. This ensures transparency and allows us to collect our 11% service fee fairly.
- Funds are released after the provider marks the job as complete.
- A 7-day dispute window exists — report issues through the platform within 7 days of job completion.
- Never accept cash outside the app. Off-platform payments remove all record-keeping protections and violate our Terms.
Protect Your Information
- Never share your phone number, school name, or home address in messages or your public bio.
- Keep all communication inside the HelperWebs messaging system.
- Keep your bio professional — e.g., "Experienced with pet care," not "I live on Oak St."
Trust Your Instincts
If something feels off, you are never obligated to continue.
- Decline the job — there is no penalty for saying no.
- Report the user using the "Report" button on their profile or job post.
- Tell a trusted adult immediately, especially if you are under 18.
Report Issues
Email safety concerns to safety@helperwebs.com. Include:
- Job ID or user profile link
- A clear description of what occurred or what made you uncomfortable
- Screenshots or message transcripts, if available
