Marketplace Rules
To maintain a safe, trustworthy, and legally compliant platform, all users must follow these rules. Ignorance of these rules is not an excuse for violating them.
Allowed Services
HelperWebs is designed exclusively for simple, local, low-risk neighborhood chores and tasks. All jobs must be:
- Legal under federal, state, and local law
- Performed in a safe, non-hazardous environment
- Appropriate for the skill level and age of the helper
- Located within a reasonable, walkable distance from the helper's neighborhood
- Free of illegal substances, weapons, or restricted materials
Examples of permitted services include, but are not limited to:
- Yard work — raking leaves, pulling weeds, watering plants, sweeping driveways
- Basic cleaning — dusting, vacuuming, organizing clutter, wiping surfaces (no industrial chemicals)
- Pet care — dog walking, feeding pets, basic grooming assistance (only for non-aggressive animals)
- Tutoring and tech help — homework assistance, basic computer setup, Wi-Fi troubleshooting, smartphone tutoring
- Basic household help — taking out trash, sorting recycling, carrying light groceries, organizing garages or sheds (ground level only)
- Errands — delivering small items within the neighborhood, returning library books, light shopping
Prohibited Listings & Services
The following categories are strictly banned from the HelperWebs platform. Posting, requesting, or attempting to arrange any of these will result in immediate account action, up to and including permanent removal.
Absolutely prohibited:
- Illegal services of any kind — including but not limited to drug sales, theft, fraud, unlicensed contracting, or any activity violating local, state, or federal law.
- Hazardous work — jobs involving power tools (lawnmowers, chainsaws, drills, pressure washers), chemicals (pesticides, industrial cleaners, pool chemicals, paint thinners), ladders or heights (gutter cleaning, roof work, window washing above ground level), or heavy machinery.
- Dangerous physical labor — moving heavy furniture, appliance installation, construction, demolition, or any task requiring specialized safety equipment.
- Jobs involving weapons, firearms, explosives, or unsafe materials — including requests to transport, handle, or be near these items.
- Adult services or inappropriate content — any job posting with sexual, romantic, or otherwise inappropriate implications. This includes babysitting requests that contain unusual or unsettling requirements.
- Misleading or fraudulent offers — fake job postings, bait-and-switch descriptions, jobs with hidden requirements, or listings designed to harvest personal information.
- Medical or therapeutic services — including elder care, nursing, physical therapy, mental health counseling, or any service requiring a professional license.
- Financial or legal services — tax preparation, notary work, loan assistance, investment advice, or debt collection.
- Transportation or delivery services involving vehicles — we do not support ride-sharing, food delivery, or package transport using personal vehicles.
- Solicitation for external platforms — using HelperWebs to recruit users for other apps, pyramid schemes, multi-level marketing, or referral programs.
User Conduct & Behavior Rules
Every user — whether a provider posting a job or a helper accepting one — is expected to behave with integrity, respect, and honesty. The following standards apply to all communication and interactions on and off the platform.
All users must:
- Be respectful and honest in all communications — no lying about job details, payment terms, or your identity.
- Honor agreed commitments — if you accept a job, show up on time and complete the task as described. If you must cancel, notify the other party as early as possible through the platform.
- Communicate through the platform — keep all scheduling, payment, and dispute discussions inside HelperWebs messages so there is a record.
- Provide accurate information — truthful names, addresses, job descriptions, and availability. Do not impersonate another person.
- Maintain professionalism — treat neighbors the way you would want to be treated. Arrive clean, prepared, and courteous.
All users must NOT:
- Harass, threaten, intimidate, or bully any other user — this includes repeated unwanted messages, verbal abuse, or showing up unannounced.
- Discriminate based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, age, or national origin — in job postings, messages, or in-person interactions.
- Abuse the reporting system — filing false reports to retaliate against another user undermines community trust and will result in penalties.
- Create multiple accounts — one account per person. Evading a suspension or ban by creating a new account is grounds for permanent removal.
- Share another user's personal information without consent — doxing, screenshotting private messages to embarrass someone, or leaking addresses is strictly forbidden.
- Attempt to circumvent platform fees — arranging off-platform payments to avoid the 11% service fee violates our Terms and removes all protections.
Minor Protection Rules
HelperWebs allows users aged 15 and older. Because minors require additional safeguards, the following rules are strictly enforced.
For all users interacting with minors:
- No unsafe or restricted work for minors — providers may not request that a minor perform hazardous tasks, operate equipment, handle chemicals, work at heights, lift heavy objects, or enter isolated areas of a home.
- No direct engagement without guardian awareness — if you are a provider hiring a minor, you acknowledge that the minor's parent or guardian has been notified via the email provided at registration. You may not attempt to hide the nature of the job from a parent.
- No private or closed-door work — minors should not be asked to work in basements, attics, locked rooms, or any space where they cannot be seen or heard by others.
- No transportation requests — minors may not be asked to drive, operate a vehicle, or travel outside their immediate neighborhood for a job.
- No inappropriate communication — absolutely no personal, romantic, or overly familiar messaging with minors. Keep all communication strictly job-related and professional.
For minors (ages 15–17) and their parents:
- Parental consent is mandatory — collected at registration and verifiable via the parent/guardian email on file.
- Parents can disable the account at any time — a disable link is sent to the registered parent email upon signup and can be requested again by contacting contact@helperwebs.com.
- Parents are responsible for reviewing job requests — we strongly recommend that a parent or guardian review every job a minor considers accepting.
- Start with outdoor, visible tasks — yard work, dog walking, and trash removal are ideal first jobs before any indoor work is considered.
Content Moderation & Our Right to Review
HelperWebs maintains the right — but not the obligation — to monitor, review, and moderate all content on the platform. This includes job listings, user profiles, messages, reviews, and profile photos.
We may take the following actions at our sole discretion:
- Remove or edit listings — if a job post violates rules, contains misleading information, or is reported by another user.
- Remove messages — if private communications contain harassment, threats, spam, or attempts to move transactions off-platform.
- Suspend or ban accounts — temporary or permanent, depending on the severity and history of violations.
- Review reported activity — we investigate reports submitted through the platform or emailed to safety@helperwebs.com.
- Request identity verification — in cases of suspected fraud, impersonation, or severe reports, we may ask a user to confirm their identity before restoring account access.
- Cooperate with law enforcement — we will comply with valid legal requests and provide user information when required by subpoena, court order, or to prevent imminent harm.
Reporting System
We rely on our community to flag problems. If you see something that violates these rules, report it immediately. Your report helps protect other users.
You can report the following:
- Unsafe behavior — a user asking you to perform hazardous work, enter a dangerous location, or meet under suspicious circumstances.
- Fraud or scams — fake listings, payment scams, phishing attempts, or users requesting money upfront.
- Inappropriate content — sexual messages, hate speech, threats, harassment, or discriminatory language.
- Off-platform payment requests — users asking you to pay or be paid outside the app to avoid fees.
- Impersonation or fake profiles — accounts using someone else's name, photo, or address without permission.
- Underage policy violations — providers attempting to hire minors for prohibited tasks.
How to report:
- Use the "Report" button on any job post, profile, or message thread.
- Email safety@helperwebs.com with the subject line "URGENT: [brief description]" for serious or time-sensitive issues.
- Include screenshots, job IDs, usernames, and a clear description of what happened. The more detail you provide, the faster we can act.
Possible outcomes after review:
- Warning — for first-time, minor violations. The user is notified and given a chance to correct their behavior.
- Temporary Suspension — for repeated violations, moderate misconduct, or serious first-time offenses. Duration ranges from 3 days to 30 days.
- Permanent Ban — for severe violations, threats, fraud, harassment, or any conduct that endangers minors. Banned users may not create new accounts.
Enforcement Levels
We use a tiered enforcement system to ensure proportionate responses. However, severe violations may skip levels entirely.
First-time minor violations. User is notified and educated on the rule they broke.
Repeated violations or moderate misconduct. Account locked for 3–30 days.
Severe or dangerous violations. Immediate ban with no possibility of reinstatement.
Violations that may skip directly to Level 3:
- Any threat of violence, sexual misconduct, or harassment toward a minor
- Fraud, scams, or identity theft
- Posting illegal services or soliciting criminal activity
- Attempting to hack, exploit, or damage the platform
- Creating a new account after being permanently banned
- Distributing another user's private information without consent
Platform Integrity & Our Rights
To protect the community and ensure the long-term viability of the platform, HelperWebs reserves the following rights:
- Review any activity — we may inspect listings, messages, and account data as part of an investigation or routine safety audit.
- Remove harmful content — without prior notice, we may delete any content we believe violates these rules, our Terms of Use, or applicable law.
- Protect the community — we may take preemptive action against an account if we receive credible information suggesting imminent harm, fraud, or illegal activity.
- Modify these rules — we may update these Marketplace Rules at any time. Users will be notified of material changes via email or platform notice. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
- Terminate the platform — while we hope to operate indefinitely, we reserve the right to suspend or shut down HelperWebs with reasonable notice if circumstances require it.
Appeals
If you believe your account was suspended, banned, or restricted in error, you may submit an appeal. We review all appeals fairly, though we do not guarantee reversal.
How to appeal:
- Email contact@helperwebs.com with the subject line "APPEAL: [Your Username]"
- Include your full name, email address associated with the account, and a detailed explanation of why you believe the decision was incorrect
- Attach any evidence that supports your case — screenshots, message context, or witness statements
- Be respectful and factual. Hostile or threatening appeals will be discarded without review
Appeal process:
- We acknowledge receipt within 48 hours
- We review the appeal and original decision within 7 business days
- We notify you of the final decision via email. This decision is binding
- Users may only appeal once per enforcement action. Repeated appeals for the same incident will not be considered
HelperWebs Is Built on Trust
Every rule on this page exists because we believe neighbors should be able to help neighbors safely, fairly, and respectfully. When you follow these rules, you are not just protecting yourself — you are protecting the entire community.
Thank you for helping us maintain that trust.
Limitation of Liability. To the fullest extent permitted by law, HelperWebs and its operators, affiliates, and agents shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the platform, enforcement actions, content removal, or interactions with other users. This includes lost profits, data loss, reputational harm, personal injury, or emotional distress, regardless of the legal theory asserted.
No Warranty. The platform is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that content is accurate, that users are trustworthy, or that the platform will be uninterrupted or error-free.
Indemnification. You agree to indemnify and hold harmless HelperWebs from any claims, damages, liabilities, or expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from your use of the platform, your violation of these rules, or your interactions with other users.
Governing Law. These rules are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict of law principles.
